Problems for Marettimo fishermen

Line ferries boycott small fishing

by Nino Maiorana

A new problem haunts the island of Marettimo.
From April 5, it is no longer possible to transport by the line ferries the small fishing products, the fruit of the small fishermen work.

The fishermen complain about the damage that such a provision will cause them, and they remind the institutions of their need to take on that little catch daily. It is thanks to this small fishing that they and their families can survive in the low season, when they are forced to take on the fish, because nobody buys it.

In this regard, I want to say that we are good at going around the world, proudly representing small-scale fishing, with the GAC or other body. We speak with Ministers, Councilors, important people who tell us that we have been able to maintain this important activity on the island. But what's the point, participate in Fairs, television broadcasts, go to the ministries in Rome, or in the department of Palermo, where we are greeted with red carpets, when we can't even board a fish box ???

I ask those in charge, to work hard to bring this painful situation, thus enabling the fishermen to embark on the catch.
