Favignana in May

Everything changes and my, our Cala Azzurra no longer looks the same

by Camomilla

It takes just a few days to enjoy the beauty, the nature, the inhabitants and the little tourism, but it’s enough to give you an idea of how charming and magical this island is.

Favignana in May offers the opportunity to find what the tourist's eye cannot see in summer. Too busy to make his way through the crowd and perhaps too inattentive to be enraptured by the magic of the places.

In May you can see the first blooms, small yellow and orange flowers hidden in the leaves of the Indian figs.

The bougainvillea here is always so generous, lovely flowers are a joy to the eye but with no fragrance.

The olive trees, in the summer, will give their precious fruit; the agave, which rises to the sky, blooms and dies and then reproduces in a continuous cycle. In Favignana, if you look carefully, you can enjoy the wonders of nature.

The islanders compete for the benches in front of the harbor and don’t deny themselves; actually, they are willing to talk to the few tourists arriving from the city, telling them little anecdotes they are fond of.

Traders, always professional, linger on the door to talk to tourists. They are friendly people, always, they take advantage now that they still have time before the busy summer.

Our Cala d'Azur does not seem to be the same. Winter gave her Posidonia leaves.

The sea is rough and colder. Everything changes and my, our Cala Azzurra no longer looks the same.

Winter gave her the leaves of Posidonia to allow the rocks to protect the little beach available.

Now it is covered with it. I do not know if I like it now more than when there are tourists.

Of course, at this time the sea is happier, puffy, overwhelming, and perhaps it prefers posidonia to the shrieking and the poor respect of some people; the sight of plastic caps with its bottle, of the cigarette wraps is painful. Idiots vulgarity marks forever the beauty of the place.

It would not take much to remember that this is a protected marine reserve, you can tell by the richness of the sea.

Learning and teaching to take care of the island means doing good to yourself and to this wonderful place that I consider to be my second home.
